Jan. 11, 2012 - Driving in to work today I heard a report from the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Morning Edition. Commentator John Moe said it was an overall disappointing year, and the product he picked as sure to fail was a piece of photo gear: a stick. "It's a metal rod that you're supposed to put a camera on the end of and then you hit the timer and take a picture of yourself," Moe said. "It was described this way." I thought, hey, I've seen these things. In fact, at that moment, I had one in my trunk. A monopod (they've been around a while). With a camera mounted on the end. A camera with a timer, which most digital cameras have. But I had never used my monopod that way. So, I came home and tried it, and now I feel so up to date, even though I still don't have an HD TV.
