Starting Dec. 16, 2011, I issued a challenge to myself to take and post a photo a day. Beyond that, there are no rules. It can be something I shot for my work at the paper or a client, or it may be a personal photo. But for 366 days - 2012 is a leap year, y'all - I will pick up a camera and take a shot and share it.

Feb. 5, 2012 - Photographing this cat was somewhat complicated by one of the other cats in the house who kept chasing her off. When I finally caught Barbie on her own, the light was still good for her, though I brought in some bounced flash to bring out her eyes a bit more. Her slight coloring keeps me from dropping this into black-and-white. (52/366)

  • Feb. 4, 2012 - Was taking pictures at No. 1 son's orchestra performance this morning at Barnes & Noble. At this moment, I was really just standing to the side watching when the orchestra teacher got really animated, and the camera viewfinder was up to my eye faster than Raylan Givens can draw his sidearm.   • Feb. 6, 2012 - So, I know I promised this project would not be a parade of cat pictures, and this is the second day in a row I am giving you a cat picture. I am messing with cat pictures a bit this week for a reason I may blog about soon. Besides, after after posting Barbie yesterday, Chocolate was jealous. (53/366)
  • Feb. 7, 2012 - I've written about looking through my viewfinder to see stars like Itzhak Perlman and Switchfoot. Don Aters has looked through his and seen at least three Beatles, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and many other rock 'n' roll legends. I shot him today at Solaris Gallery in Versailles working on a story about a show of his rock photos that is up until March 3. That's a young B.B. King in the photo next to him and Ron Wood with The Faces over his shoulder. (54/366)
  • Feb. 8, 2012 - I was glad I had a few minutes to take some shots of this morning's snow, because it was all gone by lunchtime. It was a pretty snow that didn't mess with travel, but made all the branches look nice and fluffy. (55/366)

  • Feb. 10, 2012 - My plan was to walk over to Gratz Park while Chris was in his violin lesson to take some nice snow pictures. One problem: no snow at that time. It even sort of stopped snowing while I was walking around. So, I looked around for what I could get out of this park that is drop-dead gorgeous in the spring and fall, but a little bleak on a non-snowy winter afternoon. This is what I ended up liking best.   • Feb. 15, 2012 - Author and playwright Silas House and director Adanma Onyedike Barton on stage at the Jelkyl Drama Center at Berea College where House's new play, "This is My Heart for You," opens next week. I only had a few minutes to grab a shot of them during a busy rehearsal, so I just used the stage lighting and moutain-y background for the show. (62/366)
  • Feb. 17, 2012 - This is my 366 Project's first cameraphone photo. Friday was not conducive to working on a photo and I had no photo jobs for the paper. But I said EVERY day. So, last night to go review the Philharmonic, I parked at Maxwell Presbyterian - really, out of necessity, as it was a busy night on campus. Before going home to write the review, I pulled out my AT&T HTC Inspire, which I bought in part because of the 8MP camera, and took a few shots of the front of the church. Pretty nice for a cameraphone, though I intend to come back later this year and work on a nighttime exterior of the church with a proper DSLR and a tripod. (64/366)

  • Feb. 19, 2012 - Jonah is an extremely gifted musician. Listening to him practice, I thought this was a moment where he wasn't so much trying to get the notes right but feeling the music. (66/366)
  • Feb. 21, 2012 - Pastor Pete Jones of Pisgah Presbyterian Church enjoys hearing his congregation raised the most money in the Beards for Buds project to raise awareness of and money for men's cancer issues. The project raised more than $6,500 between Pisgah and Maxwell Street Presbyterian for the American Cancer Society. (68/366)
  • Feb. 23, 2012 - I went out looking for lightning - cautiously - but I was a tad late. This was an accident, as I didn't intend to get the house in the shot, but I liked the result. One thing I learned shooting closed down at f22: I need to get my sensor cleaned! (70/366)
  • Feb. 24, 2012 - Shot this one to demonstrate to Merlene that I can coordinate my opera attire with her Kermit-colored iPad cover. (71/366)
  • Feb. 25, 2012 - Blue skies, went lookin' for blue skies. Blue skies, and some trees! (72/366)
  • Feb, 26, 2012 - This was a shot I took test driving an iPad. I don't think I would use it regularly as a camera, but it was good to look at some of its basic photo functions. (73/366)
